Null Sf std. (16. Jh.) Entlehnung. Entlehnt aus l. nulla gleicher Bedeutung, feminine Substantivierung von l. nullus "keiner". Dieses ist eine Lehnbedeutung von arab. ṣifr, das ebenfalls "Null" und "leer" bedeutet und das seinerseits ai. śūnya- "Null, leer" übersetzt (Ziffer). Als Adjektiv in null und nichtig ist das Wort im Rahmen der Rechtssprache im 16. Jh. aus dem gleichen Adjektiv l. nullus entlehnt worden. Der Ausdruck null-acht-fuffzehn für (sinnlosen) Schematismus wurde verbreitet durch die Roman- und Filmtrilogie 08/15 von H. H. Kirst (1954). Gemeint war damit der 1908 und 1915 verbesserte Maschinengewehr-Typ, dann übertragen auf den Maschinengewehr-Drill und soldatische Übungen überhaupt.
